Jim Hobbs is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for the MA Digital Arts at the University of Greenwich, based in the School of Design within the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He holds a BA, BFA, and MFA, and has been affiliated with the university since 2009, initially as a Visiting Lecturer. His work bridges Fine Art and digital practices, focusing on themes of loss, memory, and the interplay between physical monuments and absence. He serves as an artist-in-residence, integrating creative approaches across Architecture and Design disciplines.
Research interests include the role of Fine Art in digital fields, sonic and visual media, and the social implications of memory through installations. His 2023 curation of the Sound/Image exhibition highlighted collaborative audiovisual practices, featuring works exploring sound-image relationships and contemporary art methodologies.
He actively engages in interdisciplinary exhibitions and festivals, such as the Sound/Image Festival 2023, which combined installations, conferences, and performances. His creative output spans film, sculpture, and site-specific works addressing the tension between analogue and digital mediums.
