Jim Burch is an Adjunct Professor at George Mason University's Department of Criminology, Law and Society and serves as President of the National Policing Institute (NPI). He leads NPI's programs focused on advancing policing through innovation and science. With over decades of experience in the U.S. Department of Justice, he held senior roles including Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Operations and Management at the Office of Justice Programs, Acting Assistant Director of the ATF, and Acting Director of the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), overseeing $500M+ in annual funding.

Research Interests: Focuses on police administration, policing strategies, accountability mechanisms, law enforcement technology, and evidence-based criminal justice reform. His work emphasizes bridging research and practice to improve public safety outcomes.
