Jillian Theobald, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), serving as the Associate Medical Director of the Wisconsin Poison Center and Quality Assurance Director. She holds leadership roles in clinical research and toxicology, including Co-Medical Director of the Adult Translational Research Unit at the Clinical & Translational Science Institute of Southwest Wisconsin.
Dr. Theobald earned a BA in Physics (with minors in Math and Biology) from Carthage College (2001), followed by a PhD in Cell Biology and Anatomy (2008) and MD (2010) from Rosalind Franklin University. She completed an EM residency at the University of Illinois Hospital (2013) and a Medical Toxicology fellowship at the Toxikon Consortium (2013-2016).
Her research focuses on validating historical toxicological management strategies, opioid overdose epidemiology, and optimizing poison center operations. Notable contributions include systematic reviews on phenibut withdrawal and salicylate toxicity management. She has authored chapters in major textbooks like Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics and Rosen's Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Theobald has received multiple awards, including the MCW Outstanding Medical Student Teacher (2017) and UIC Mentor of the Year (2013). Her work bridges clinical practice, research, and quality improvement in emergency medicine and toxicology.
