Jill Pluquailec is a Senior Lecturer in Autism at Sheffield Hallam University's Department of Education Childhood and Inclusion within the College of Social Sciences and Arts. Her teaching and research focus on social justice for disabled children and families, examining how bodies and spaces in education are produced within matrices of power and surveillance. She holds a PhD, MA, BA (Hons), FHEA, and PGCTLHE.
Her research sits at the intersection of Critical Disability Studies, Disabled Children's Childhood Studies, and Critical Autism Studies, challenging dominant understandings of marginalized experiences. She has a specific commitment to ethical research design and practice for historically excluded groups.
Current research projects include leading the 'Right to Review' initiative examining parental responses to the UK Government SEND Review, investigating the impact of COVID-19 on autistic young people's education, and co-investigating studies on hygiene/toileting during the pandemic. Her scholarship consistently addresses the socio-spatial dimensions of disability and the politics of inclusion.
Pluquailec frequently presents at international conferences such as Critical Autism Studies and Critical Education, addressing topics like challenging behavior discourse, risky spaces of disability, and play theory through disability perspectives.
