Jill Morgan is a Lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), affiliated with the School of Music and Performing Arts Education. Her academic background includes a PhD in Music Psychology from the University of Edinburgh, a Master’s in Psychology for Musicians from the University of Sheffield, and a piano specialization from Trinity College London. She teaches modules like Practitioner Enquiry on the MEd Learning and Teaching program, and co-coordinates the Introduction to Music Psychology module. Her research focuses on music’s role in social relationships, health wellbeing, and performing arts education transitions. Jill has conducted studies on songwriting in pediatric palliative care (Coorie Doon project) and identity conflicts among emerging artists.
Key awards include recognition from the University of Edinburgh Music Department, Edinburgh College of Art, and the Society for Education, Music and Psychology Research, alongside two Athenaeum Awards from RCS. She has presented at international conferences and appeared on BBC Radio Scotland discussing music’s therapeutic applications. Jill’s work bridges academic research with community engagement, such as her 2024 ‘An Easterhouse Children's Manifesto’ public talk and organizing the 2018 ISME conference.
