Jill Magid is an Adjunct Professor at Cooper Union’s School of Art, renowned for her performance-based art that interrogates the relationship between individuals and institutional structures. Her practice often involves collaborative engagements with organizations such as intelligence agencies, exploring themes of seduction, legal tensions, and systemic loopholes.
Magid holds a BFA from Cornell University and an MS from MIT. She is affiliated with Harvard University’s Art, Design and the Public Domain program as an Associate and was a 2013-15 fellow at the Vera List Center for Art and Politics.
Her research interests bridge conceptual art, institutional critique, and the intersection of science and art. Recent works, such as the Predictive Stem Elongation Model series, visualize mathematical formulas (Richards Function) used in agriculture to maximize flower stem length, reflecting on commerce, beauty, and predictive systems.
Scientific Awards include the 2017 Calder Prize and a Guggenheim Fellowship (2021). She has exhibited globally at institutions like the Tate Modern, Whitney Museum, and Tate Liverpool, with recent works featured in Art Basel Paris + and The Warehouse exhibition.
Magid’s career includes grants such as the Netherland-American Foundation Fellowship and her work is collected by major institutions like the Whitney Museum. She has authored four novellas and participated in biennials including Performa and Liverpool.
