معرفی
Richard Hawkins (b. 1961, Mexia, TX) is an American artist and Adjunct Professor specializing in sculpture, collage, and painting. His work explores themes such as haunted dollhouses, classical statuary, butoh dance (influenced by Tatsumi Hijikata), and the artistic legacies of Antonin Artaud and Forrest Bess. Based in Los Angeles, his works are held in institutions like the Whitney Museum, Art Institute of Chicago, and Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Major solo exhibitions include Tate Liverpool, Consortium (Dijon), and the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles. His practice merges high and low cultural references, driven by historical research and personal obsessions, filtered through his queer identity.
Research interests include the interplay between art history and contemporary performance, queer aesthetics, and the materiality of sculpture. His work critiques and reimagines traditional artistic forms through a lens of personal and cultural hybridity.
