Jill M. Merritt

Jill M. Merritt is an Associate Professor in the School of Education at Gannon University, specializing in special education and early childhood education. She serves as the Coordinator of Field Experience within the Education Program and teaches courses ranging from foundational special education to advanced strategies for students with disabilities. Dr. Merritt also advises Gannon's student group GUSEC, which engages in community activities for individuals with disabilities.

Dr. Merritt’s research focuses on innovative interventions for children with autism, including equine-assisted therapy in collaboration with Occupational Therapy students and the Barber National Institute. She also explores the impact of alternative seating on classroom attention in early childhood settings. Her work emphasizes practical applications to enhance educational outcomes.

She has participated in numerous service roles, including President of The Arc of Erie County, Chair of the Compensation Committee at Gannon University, and leadership positions in local government and community organizations such as the Montessori Regional Charter School Board of Trustee and Erie Area Council of Governments.
