Dr. Jill Smith is a faculty member at Hannibal-LaGrange University's Instructional Education Faculty. She joined HLGU in fall 2020 as an online course designer for the developing online Elementary Teacher Education Degree program and taught graduate and undergraduate online courses until fall 2022, when she transitioned to in-seat undergraduate instruction.
Educational Background:
- Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Missouri-Columbia, with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education and Early Literacy
- B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Hannibal-LaGrange University (1983-1985)
Academic Appointments:
- Assistant Professor at the University of Houston-Clear Lake (2011-2015)
- Assistant Professor at Central Methodist University (2015-2020)
Research Interests: Dr. Smith specializes in Early Childhood Education, Curriculum Development, and Early Literacy, with expertise in Educational Technology and online course design for elementary education programs.
Teaching Experience: She has over 24 years of K-3 public school teaching experience in Missouri, combined with higher education roles in online and in-person graduate/undergraduate instruction.
Personal Life: Dr. Smith resides in Eolia, MO, with her dog Riley. She has three grown children, six grandchildren, and is affiliated with Edgewood Baptist Church in rural Bowling Green, MO.
