Jill Durey is an Honorary Associate Professor in the School of Arts and Humanities at Edith Cowan University (ECU). She holds a Doctor of Philosophy from Murdoch University (1987), a Master of Research from England (1971), and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from England (1969). Her research focuses on Victorian literature, with particular emphasis on authors such as John Galsworthy, Anthony Trollope, and Jane Austen. Her work explores themes like animal welfare, colonialism, medical ethics, and social justice in 19th-century texts.
Research Projects: She has led significant grants, including 'Deep Within My Soul' (2008–2013) examining memory in Alzheimer’s patients and Kira and James (2008–2010), a biographical study using historical and creative research methods.
Supervision: Dr. Durey has supervised numerous PhD and Master’s students, focusing on creative works and critical essays across literature, history, and cultural studies. Notable topics include novels exploring migrant experiences, autoethnography, and socio-pragmatic studies of silence in cross-cultural contexts.
Publications: Her recent articles (2023–2021) address medical humanities, pandemic impacts on the humanities, and Galsworthy’s exploration of vivisection and animal welfare. Earlier works analyze Trollope’s colonial themes and Dickens’ legal narratives.
