Jieyu Liu is Professor of Sociology at SOAS University of London's College of Law, Anthropology and Politics, specializing in Chinese society. She chairs the Research Ethics Panel and co-edits The China Quarterly.
Her ERC-funded project 'Doing Intimacy' (2017-2023) examined family dynamics in China/Hong Kong/Taiwan. Publications include Gender and Work in Urban China (women in socialist work units) and Gender, Sexuality and Power in Chinese Companies (professional women's experiences).
Awards: Sage Best Paper Prize (2022) for childhood study. She curates exhibitions like 'British or Chinese: Stories of Migration' and advises media/governments on gender issues.
Current PhD students research abortion, marriage norms, and urbanized villages in China.
