Jie Zhang is an Associate Professor in the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria. She holds a BA in Economics from Fudan University, an MA in Sociology and ScM in Computer Science from Brown University, and a DBA in Operations and Technology Management from Boston University. Her research focuses on healthy aging, home support services, service continuity, hospitality, professional services, and franchising. She employs co-production theories, network perspectives, and empirical methods to study value co-creation in service sectors.
Her work has been published in leading journals such as Journal of Operations Management and Production and Operations Management. She is an active member of POMS, ISA, and serves as an En-ROADS climate ambassador. Jie has received awards including the 2024 Gustavson Outstanding Performance Recognition and the 2016 International Society of Franchising Best Paper Award.
- Teaching: Courses include Operations Management (MBA), Sustainable Development, and Service Management.
- Grants: Current projects include a UVic Collaborative Health Grant ($34,000) and a BC SUPPORT Unit grant ($9,260).
- Special Projects: Her Improving Home Support Service Continuity initiative proposes a measurement scale for service continuity, benefiting stakeholders like healthcare providers and policymakers.
- Service: Editorial board member of Journal of Operations Management and board director of Seniors Serving Seniors.
