Jie Yang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Business Administration at the Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba. He holds a Ph.D. from the Schulich School of Business at York University. His research focuses on organizational theory and strategy, particularly how socially constructed ideas like institutions, identities, and categories influence firm and individual behavior, and vice versa. His work has been published in leading journals such as the Journal of Management and Research Policy.
Before joining the University of Manitoba, Dr. Yang was an Assistant Professor of Strategic Management at SUNY Polytechnic Institute. He has extensive teaching experience in Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship courses at SUNY and York University since 2017. His research explores themes including product market competition, international management, category dynamics, and social evaluation mechanisms.
Key research contributions include studies on corruption's dual impact on innovation, the role of legitimacy in industry survival, and strategic categorization approaches in product markets. His work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical implications for organizational strategy in competitive and global contexts.
Dr. Yang’s academic career includes affiliations with prestigious institutions and active participation in scholarly communities like the Academy of Management. His research emphasizes understanding how institutional logics and market dynamics shape strategic decision-making processes in both domestic and international environments.
