Jie Shan

Jie Shan is a full professor in the Department of Physics at Cornell University, affiliated with the School of Applied and Engineering Physics. She holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Columbia University (2001) and previously served as an assistant/associate professor at Case Western Reserve University (2002–2014) and as an associate/full professor at Pennsylvania State University (2014–2017).

Her research focuses on experimental condensed matter physics, particularly the optical and electronic properties of atomically thin two-dimensional crystals (e.g., graphene, MoS2) and their heterostructures. She develops advanced spectroscopy and microscopy techniques to study electron dynamics, spin fluctuations, and correlated quantum phases in nanoscale systems.
