Brian LeRoy is a Professor of Physics and Associate Department Head at the University of Arizona. His research focuses on low-dimensional materials such as carbon nanotubes, graphene, and transition metal dichalcogenides, employing scanning probe microscopy and optical spectroscopy techniques. He leads the LeRoy Research Group, exploring phenomena in van der Waals heterostructures and moiré superlattices.
LeRoy holds a Ph.D. in Physics from Harvard University (2003). His work has been recognized with prestigious awards including the APS Fellow designation and an NSF CAREER Award. Key research themes include moiré band engineering, topological states in twisted bilayer graphene, and excitonic effects in 2D semiconductor heterostructures.
Publications highlight advancements in moiré trapping of excitons, phonon dynamics in graphene-hBN systems, and the discovery of superlattice Dirac points. His group's studies bridge fundamental physics with applications in quantum devices and optoelectronics. Current research emphasizes atomically precise nanoribbons, ultra-broadband photonics, and topological quantum states.
