معرفی
Raymond Ashoori is a Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), holding the position of Associate Director at the Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE). His research focuses on the electronic properties of low-dimensional quantum systems, including graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), and moiré heterostructures. He is renowned for pioneering techniques in tunneling spectroscopy, including time-domain capacitance and pump-probe methods to probe electronic states in 2D materials and quantum Hall systems.
Educated at Cornell University (Ph.D., Physics, 1991), Ashoori’s work bridges condensed matter physics and nanotechnology. His lab explores emergent phenomena such as superconductivity, fractional quantum Hall effects, and topological phases in engineered 2D heterostructures. Key contributions include studies on moiré band engineering, ferroelectricity in graphene systems, and correlated electron behaviors in twisted-layer materials.
Research highlights include the observation of quasiparticle crystallization in quantum Hall ferromagnets, plasmaron structures in electronic spectra, and the manipulation of isospin order in bilayer graphene. His group also develops advanced spectroscopic tools to map energy, momentum, and spin-resolved electronic states in real-time.
Awards and recognition include MIT’s prestigious Bose Award for Distinguished Teaching (2018) and sustained contributions to the understanding of 2D material physics. His interdisciplinary approach integrates device fabrication, nanoscale characterization, and theoretical modeling to uncover novel quantum phenomena. Current projects include exploring tunable superconductivity in moiré quasicrystals and studying interlayer excitons in van der Waals heterostructures.
