Jie Gao

Jie Gao is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Stony Brook University, affiliated with the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Her research focuses on optical and thermal energy harvesting, optical sensing, nanomanufacturing, opto-mechanics, and quantum optics. She leads a lab exploring 2D materials, optical nanostructures, and infrared technologies.

Research emphasizes chiral metasurfaces, upconversion photoluminescence in monolayers, and strain-tunable optical properties.
