Jie Deng is an Assistant Professor of Geosciences at Princeton University, leading the Computational Mineral Physics Laboratory. He holds a Ph.D. in Geophysics from Yale University (2019) and specializes in atomistic simulations, machine learning, and laboratory experiments to study planetary material properties. His research focuses on mantle dynamics, phase transitions, and magma ocean processes, with applications to terrestrial planet evolution.
Research Interests: Deng investigates high-pressure mineral physics, planetary formation, and the interplay between geochemical processes and planetary structure. Key areas include bridgmanite crystallization, core-mantle interactions, and the role of water in exoplanet interiors. His work combines computational modeling with experimental data to address fundamental questions about Earth's evolution and the nature of super-Earths.
Publications: His recent work explores mantle heterogeneity formation via magma ocean crystallization, grain boundary diffusion mechanisms, and thermal conductivity in super-Earths. Publications highlight advancements in machine learning applications for material property prediction and exoplanet interior modeling.
