معرفی
Professor Philippe Carrez leads the Plasticity research team in the Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Lille, where he specializes in computational materials science and mineral physics. His research program focuses on atomic-scale modeling of deformation mechanisms in Earth and planetary materials.
Key research areas include:
- Multiscale modeling of plastic deformation in deep Earth minerals
- Dislocation dynamics and defect properties under extreme conditions
- Atomistic simulations of grain boundaries and interfaces
- Rheological properties of mantle minerals like bridgmanite and periclase
- Computational methods development for materials science
Professor Carrez employs advanced computational techniques including molecular dynamics, dislocation density fields, and machine learning approaches to investigate mineral behavior under planetary interior conditions. His influential 2023 Nature paper demonstrated that periclase deforms more slowly than bridgmanite under mantle conditions, reshaping understanding of lower mantle rheology.
He has supervised numerous PhD students investigating topics ranging from vacancy diffusion mechanisms to nanostructure-property relationships in complex oxides. Current projects involve developing continuum descriptions of crystal defects and investigating deformation mechanisms in perovskite-structured materials.
