Karine Gouriet is an Assistant Professor at the University of Lille's Unité Matériaux et Transformations (UMET), where she specializes in numerical modeling of mineral plasticity in Earth's mantle. Her research employs dislocation dynamics and electron tomography to study deformation mechanisms in geological materials under extreme conditions.
Research focuses include high-pressure mineral behavior, dislocation interactions, and rheological modeling of mantle minerals like olivine, bridgmanite, and periclase. Recent work has clarified deformation mechanisms in subduction zones and lower mantle conditions.
She has supervised PhD candidate Timmo Weidner (2024) on dislocation electron tomography applications. Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on mineral plasticity through computational and experimental approaches, with frequent collaborations on international projects.
