Professor Jianping Xie is a distinguished faculty member at the National University of Singapore (NUS), holding the prestigious position of Provost Chair's Professor since January 2025. He is affiliated with the Faculty of Engineering, specifically within the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Professor Xie received his educational foundation from prestigious institutions, earning his PhD and MS (MEBCS) from the Singapore-MIT Alliance and NUS in 2008 and 2004 respectively, followed by his ME and BE in Chemical Engineering from Tsinghua University, China in 2002 and 2000.
Professor Xie's research focuses on engineering ultrasmall gold and silver nanoclusters for biomedical and catalytic applications. His work strategically blends chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, biology, and medicine into the niche area of atomically precise metal nanomaterials. The Xie group explores how gold and silver at nano and sub-nano scales exhibit intriguing physical and chemical properties that open new possibilities in healthcare and environmental applications. His research spans noble metal nanoclusters, nanoparticles, nanomedicine, nanobiotechnology, and energy/environmental applications.
Analysis of Professor Xie's recent publications reveals a strong focus on atomically precise metal nanoclusters, particularly gold-based systems. His work demonstrates expertise in synthesis, characterization, and application of these materials, with significant contributions to understanding growth mechanisms, optical properties, and catalytic behaviors.
