Jianan Lu is a Research Fellow at the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance, University of Portsmouth, and Secretary of the Centre for Innovative and Sustainable Finance (CISF). He holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Edinburgh (2022) and served as a Post-doctoral Researcher at the University of Oxford's Department of International Development (2021-2022). His research focuses on Fintech, Development Economics, and Experimental Economics, with publications in top journals like Journal of Financial Intermediation and Research Policy.
He leads the project 'Fintech as a fence for the shock and fuel for the recovery? Lessons from the war,' collaborating with international scholars. Awards include the 2023 Isambard Kingdom Brunel Bursary. Lu also serves as a Guest Editor for the Journal of Chinese Economic and Business Studies and holds a part-time role as Research Fellow at Tsinghua University's Centre for Chinese Entrepreneur Studies (CCES).
His work addresses global crises, financial inclusion, and innovation, with recent contributions analyzing Bangladesh's digital experiments and Ukraine's post-war recovery mechanisms. Research outputs emphasize methodological rigor through randomized trials and historical impact analysis.
