Dr. B M Hasanul Banna is a Senior Lecturer in Banking and Finance at the Department of Finance and Economics, Business School, Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), UK. He previously served at the University of Malaya (UM), Malaysia, and holds a PhD in Finance and Banking from UM with a Full-Bright Scholarship, alongside a BSc in Economics and Finance from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
His research focuses on banking, financial technology, financial inclusion, ESG, and microfinance. He leads multiple projects on fintech, cybersecurity, and sustainable finance. Notable publications include studies in high-impact journals like Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money and Energy Economics. He is open to supervising PhD students in areas such as financial stability, fintech, and ESG.
Awards include the Global Talent award from the British Academy and nominations for the Flying Start in Research Award. He holds editorial roles at journals like International Journal of Islamic and Middle Eastern Finance and Management and serves on the Working Group for Digital Banking Governance at AAOIFI.
He has contributed to projects like evaluating efficiency in the University of Malaya and analyzing urban poverty in Kuala Lumpur. His media engagements include op-eds on Bangladesh’s economic policies and microfinance regulation.
