Jian Gong

Jian Gong is a Research Scientist at the University of Wyoming's School of Computing. His work focuses on interdisciplinary applications of computing in science, engineering, and art, emphasizing computational tools for research and innovation. He holds a PhD in Geology from Texas A&M University and a BS from UC Berkeley.

Research Interests: Dr. Gong investigates complex systems, environmental-biological evolution, and the origin of life. His work spans astrobiology (NASA-sponsored projects), AI/ML in Earth sciences, material characterization (XRD, SEM/TEM), and computational microscopy. He also explores human-machine interfaces and generative art through his company Cosmomakers LLC.

Projects: Key projects include studying fossilization mechanisms, biosignature preservation in extreme environments, and experimental UV irradiation effects on Mars-like conditions. He develops tools for analyzing silica mineral precipitation and microbial-mineral interactions.
