Jiahe Li

Jiahe Li, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan's College of Engineering. His research focuses on engineered microbial systems, synthetic biology, and advanced drug delivery platforms. He leads the Advanced Biotherapeutics Lab, which develops novel strategies for cancer therapy, immunomodulation, and pathogen sensing. Dr. Li holds a B.S. in Microbiology from China Agricultural University (2005-2009), a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Cornell University (2009-2015), and completed postdoctoral training at MIT (2015-2018).

Research interests include bacterial chassis engineering for therapeutic applications, targeted drug delivery systems, and synthetic biology tools for cancer and infectious disease treatment. His lab explores engineered probiotics, surface-displayed cytokines, and pathogen sensors for rapid diagnostics. Recent work focuses on Bacillus subtilis and E. coli platforms for immunotherapy, as well as OMV-based drug delivery systems.

Dr. Li's work bridges molecular engineering and clinical translation, with projects addressing metastatic cancer treatment, antimicrobial development, and nanomaterials for biomedical applications. His lab collaborates across disciplines to advance therapeutic strategies through synthetic biology and biomaterial innovation.
