معرفی
Jeffrey W. Schertzer is an Associate Professor in Biological Sciences and Director of the Biochemistry Program at Binghamton University. His research focuses on bacterial interactions through outer membrane vesicles (OMVs), including their biogenesis, cargo packaging, and roles in biofilm formation and quorum sensing. Applications include vaccine development and antimicrobial drug delivery.
Education:
- PhD in Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences, McMaster University
- BSc, McMaster University
Research Interests:
- Mechanisms of OMV formation and cargo targeting
- OMV roles in bacterial communication and pathogenesis
- Development of synthetic OMV-based drug delivery systems
- Interactions between OMVs and host immune systems
Collaborations: Works with Dr. Xin Yong (Mechanical Engineering, Binghamton) on computational membrane simulations, Dr. Paul Chiarot (Mechanical Engineering, Binghamton) for synthetic vesicle production, and Dr. Robert Ernst (University of Maryland) on membrane lipid analysis.
Labs/Teams: The Schertzer Lab at Binghamton University integrates microbiology, bioengineering, and computational modeling to study OMV biology. Collaborative projects include asymmetric vesicle engineering and membrane structural analysis.
