معرفی
Dr. Jia Sun serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at SUNY Downstate School of Public Health, where her research centers on environmental health equity and methodological approaches to exposure-related health outcomes.
Her educational background includes:
- PhD in Public Health Studies (with distinction) from Saint Louis University
- MPH in Biostatistics and Epidemiology from Yale University
- MS from Drexel University
- BS in Biotechnology from Capital Normal University, China
Dr. Sun's research focuses on environmental health equity through advanced epidemiological methods including time-series analysis, logistic regression, and propensity score matching. She investigates acute/long-term health effects of air pollution and temperature extremes, identifying vulnerable populations and exposure windows while developing intervention strategies like noise reduction and nutritional modifications. Her work emphasizes contextual factors such as age, season, and socioeconomic status, with significant implications for public health policy in environmental justice contexts.
Analysis of her 2020-2022 publications reveals consistent application of rigorous statistical methods across Chinese populations, examining preterm birth, respiratory diseases, mental health, and cardiovascular outcomes. These studies demonstrate innovative approaches to effect modification analysis and intervention development in environmental epidemiology.
Scientific recognition includes:
- PhD Dissertation with Distinction (Saint Louis University)
- China Red Cross Advanced Individual Award (Beijing region)
Dr. Sun teaches core public health courses including Applied Biostatistics II and Environmental Determinants of Health while serving as APHA poster reviewer. Her collaborative research spans institutions in China and the US, building on clinical experience from Penn Medicine and Beijing Herun Clinics. Current work focuses on genetic-environmental interactions and scalable public health interventions for exposure-related health disparities.
Her research operates within SUNY Downstate's collaborative public health framework, leveraging partnerships with Chinese institutions to address transnational environmental health challenges through methodologically rigorous, equity-centered approaches.
