Jessie Harper

Jessie Harper is a Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, affiliated with the Graduate School of Education (Penn GSE) as Assistant Dean of Faculty Affairs and Diversity and Co-Director of the HEARD (Hub for Equity, Anti-Oppression, Research, and Development). She also teaches courses in the School of Social Policy and Practice, including American Racism and Understanding Social Change.

Dr. Harper’s work focuses on systemic inequities, particularly in the intersection of education, criminal justice, and social policy. Her course Examining the School to Prison Pipeline: Implications of History, Policy, and Race synthesizes literature, sociology, education, history, and law to address historical and contemporary racism, policy analysis, and intervention strategies.
