Jessie Daniels is a Full Professor of Sociology at Hunter College, CUNY, and a Faculty Associate at the Harvard Berkman Klein Center. She holds affiliate roles in Africana Studies, Critical Social Psychology, and Sociology at The Graduate Center-CUNY. Her expertise centers on digital sociology, racism, and media studies, with a focus on how digital technologies shape societal structures and white supremacist ideologies.
She earned a PhD from the University of Texas-Austin. Her research spans over 25 years, examining race and racism in media, including far-right extremist groups’ transition to digital platforms. Notable works include White Lies (1997), Cyber Racism (2009), and Nice White Ladies (2021), which won a Kirkus starred review. She directs Hunter College’s Master’s program in Applied Digital Sociology, emphasizing data-driven societal analysis.
Daniels’ articles and books explore topics like algorithmic bias, intersectionality, and global white supremacy. Her work bridges academia and activism, critiquing systemic inequities in technology and scholarly practices. She has advised on UN initiatives and is recognized as a pioneer in digital sociology.
