Jessica von Pein is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB), part of the University of Queensland. Her research focuses on understanding how innate immune cells utilize zinc ions to combat E. coli infections, particularly in urinary tract infections. She is also an active member of the IMB Science Ambassador Program, dedicated to science communication and promoting IMB's research initiatives.
Jessica holds a Bachelor of Science with a biomedical major from the University of Queensland and completed her Honours project in immunology under Professor Matt Sweet at IMB. Her work bridges biochemistry, microbiology, and immunology, addressing global health challenges like antibiotic resistance.
Her research interests emphasize translational science, aiming to develop novel therapeutic strategies for infections. She advocates interdisciplinary learning for aspiring researchers and actively participates in public engagement through her ambassador role.
In her free time, Jessica enjoys ballet, cooking, gardening, and exploring nature through bush walking.
