Jessica Wu serves as an SSLA Research Fellow at Stanford Law School, Stanford University, contributing to the Stanford Securities Litigation Analytics (SSLA) project which systematically tracks federal securities class actions and SEC enforcement actions filed since 2000. The initiative collects nearly 1,000 data points per case through machine and human analysis of court filings, SEC releases, and financial statements to enable data-driven legal and financial decision-making.
Her research focuses on the quantitative analysis of securities litigation patterns, with emphasis on:
- Risk modeling for disclosure violations
- Settlement dynamics in class actions
- Impact of corporate governance failures
- Market cap correlations in litigation outcomes
- Temporal patterns in case dismissals and settlements
- Cross-jurisdictional litigation trends
The SSLA project maintains a comprehensive database of over 3,000 cases, featuring interactive visualizations that analyze litigation duration (mean: 2.2 years), settlement distributions (mean: $33.6M), and market cap impacts. This resource supports D&O insurers, law firms, and institutional investors in reserving, claims management, and mediator selection through 40+ query filters covering allegations, company characteristics, and litigation milestones. Recent developments include integration of M&A objection analytics and real-time case status tracking featured in the Wall Street Journal.
