Jessica Tischler is a Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Green Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Michigan-Flint, College of Innovation and Technology. She has been a dedicated faculty member since 2001, advancing through the academic ranks and contributing significantly to academic leadership and student development.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Michigan State University (2001)
- B.Sc. in Chemistry, Saginaw Valley State University (1995)
Her research centers on green synthetic organic methods, particularly reductive amination using dialkylformamides and subcritical water, aiming to simplify the conversion of aldehydes to tertiary amines. She also develops green chemistry teaching materials for the ACS Green Chemistry Institute. Her scholarly work spans medicinal chemistry, environmental justice, and science education.

Jessica Tischler has been the dedicated advisor of the UM-Flint Chemistry Club since 2002, leading it to national acclaim. She has received multiple advising excellence awards, including the Lawrence D. Kugler and Dr. Charles W. Bailey Awards. Her funded projects include the 'Curiosity Academy' and 'Stronger Together: Developing a Local Network for Women in Academia,' reflecting her commitment to student engagement and gender equity in STEM.
She leads the 'Skills Beyond the Bench' annual networking event and co-chaired the founding of the UM-Flint Women’s Commission, demonstrating strong leadership in diversity and inclusion. Her outreach initiatives have strengthened community bonds and promoted science literacy.
