Jessica Rothman is a Professor of Anthropology and Program Director at Hunter College, City University of New York (CUNY). She is Director of the Human Biology Program and a core member of the New York Consortium in Evolutionary Primatology. Her research focuses on primate nutritional ecology, wildlife conservation, and human-primate interactions.
- Education: PhD, MS, BS in Animal Nutrition from Cornell University; Postdoc in Biology and Anthropology from McGill University.
Dr. Rothman leads the Wildlife Nutritional Ecology Lab, conducting fieldwork in Uganda's national parks. Her work combines nutritional geometry, dietary strategies, and conservation biology. She collaborates with the Uganda Wildlife Authority and Makerere University, examining how primates balance nutrients under ecological constraints.
Recent publications highlight her expertise in primate diet, gut microbiome variation, pesticide exposure, and conservation messaging. Her research spans diverse taxa including chimpanzees, lemurs, capuchins, and endangered ungulates.
She advises graduate students globally and directs a multidisciplinary team of post-docs, PhD candidates, and undergraduates in her lab.
