Jacob Negrey is an Assistant Professor in Biological Anthropology at the University of Arizona, affiliated with the School of Anthropology. He co-directs the Ngogo Chimpanzee Project in Uganda and directs the Applied Primate Eco-omics (A.P.E.) Lab, which uses noninvasive 'omics methods to study primate health and conservation. His research focuses on primate behavior, disease ecology, aging processes, and conservation.
His work integrates methods from animal behavior, epidemiology, and physiology to understand primate health dynamics. Key projects include investigating menopause in wild chimpanzees, immune system variation across life stages, and the impact of human activity on primate viral communities. Negrey teaches courses on human evolution, Darwinian medicine, and primate behavior.
Research interests span primatology, infectious disease ecology, aging, endocrinology, ecophysiology, and conservation. Recent studies explore diet effects on neuroinflammation in primates and the role of social networks in disease transmission. He actively collaborates on long-term field projects in Uganda and advocates for wildlife health protection.
