Jessica Resvick is an Assistant Professor in the Department of German Language and Literatures at Oberlin College. She holds a PhD from the University of Chicago (2019), MA from Dartmouth College (2013), and ScB from Brown University (2011). Her work bridges media history and the history of science, examining how media shape knowledge production in 19th-century German literature and culture.
Research focuses include the poetics of knowledge in realist prose, typological thought in science and literature, and Goethe’s reception. She has held positions as a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at Dartmouth (2019-2021) and Assistant Professor at Oklahoma State University (2021-2023).
Recent publications analyze media-historical frameworks in German realism and transatlantic literary exchanges. Her book projects address realist narrative epistemology and the evolution of visual typology. Awards include an Honorable Mention from the Goethe Society of North America (2018).
Teaching spans elementary to advanced German courses, including interdisciplinary offerings on fairy tales, the Faust legend, and Kafka studies. Her courses emphasize cultural analysis and media theory.
