Jessica McCaughey is an Associate Professor in the University Writing Program at George Washington University (GWU), affiliated with the Columbian College of Arts & Sciences. She co-founded and co-directs the Archive of Workplace Writing Experiences (workplace-writing.org) and co-founded Golden Line Writing Academy. Her research focuses on writing skill transfer between academic and professional contexts, workplace writing dynamics, and technical communication.
- Directed GWU's Workplace Writing Program, creating workshops for organizations like Amnesty International, FDA, and Department of Labor
- Collaborates with GWU's Writing in the Disciplines (WID), Career Services, and Teaching & Learning Center
Research interests include analyzing writing practices across career transitions, gendered writing experiences, and pedagogical strategies for professional communication. Current projects involve a book manuscript on writing during career changes.
Awarded the 2017 Emergent Researcher Award by the Conference on College Composition and Communication. Scholarly work appears in Technical Communication Quarterly, Peitho, and Assay. Creative writing has been published in The Best American Travel Writing and other literary journals.
Previously served as copywriter, editor, and communications manager. Engages in community writing initiatives and interdisciplinary collaboration with organizations like the Democracy Fund.
