Jessica Madrigal

Jessica Madrigal is an Associate Professor in the School of Integrated Sciences, Sustainability, and Public Health at the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS), part of the College of Health, Science, and Technology. She joined UIS in August 2025 after serving as an investigator and Independent Research Scholar at the National Cancer Institute's Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch.

• Education: Ph.D. in Environmental and Occupational Epidemiology, University of Illinois at Chicago (NIOSH fellow)

Her research focuses on environmental exposure inequities and their links to chronic diseases, including cancer, kidney disease, and asthma. She investigates contaminants like industrial pollution, organochlorine pesticides, and metals, with community collaborations on heavy metal impacts on children's pulmonary function. Awards include a NIOSH fellowship. Prior roles involved analyzing environmental risk factors in the National Cancer Institute's Intramural Research Program.
