Jessica M Smith is an Associate Professor in the Engineering, Design & Society Department at the Colorado School of Mines, where she directs the Humanitarian Engineering and Science master's program. Her academic journey includes a PhD in anthropology and graduate certificate in women's studies from the University of Michigan and a BA from Macalester College with majors in anthropology, international studies, and Latin American studies.

Professor Smith's research centers on the intersection of anthropology, energy, and engineering. Her scholarship bridges theoretical anthropological inquiry with practical applications in engineering education.
