Professor Jessica Lamond serves as Dean for Research and Enterprise at the University of the West of England (UWE), leading the College of Arts, Technology and Environment. Her academic role is anchored in the Faculty of Environment and Technology (FET), where she holds a professorship in Real Estate and Climate Risk. She joined UWE in 2011, co-founding the Centre for Floods Communities and Resilience and later co-directing the Centre for Architecture and Built Environment Research. Prior to academia, she worked in government consultancy and at Unilever, with a PhD and postdoc in Flood Risk and Real Estate from the University of Wolverhampton.
Her expertise spans transdisciplinary research in flood resilience, climate adaptation, and property valuation. Key research areas include property flood resilience (PFR), socio-technical governance frameworks, and the financial and social impacts of flooding. She has led over £10M in research projects influencing national and international policy, including co-authoring the UK’s PFR code of practice and contributing to Flood Re Transition Planning. Her work bridges academia, industry, and policy through roles in Natural Hazards Research Australia, BSI committees, Defra roundtables, and UKRI grant reviews.
Recent publications emphasize global flood research priorities, blue-green infrastructure implementation, and stakeholder engagement in climate adaptation. Her interdisciplinary approach addresses barriers to resilience adoption, integrating technical innovation with community and policy dynamics. Awards and recognitions are reflected in her advisory roles and peer-reviewed contributions to flood risk management literature.
Grants and collaborations include multi-stakeholder initiatives on biodiversity in urban development, railway flood resilience, and African climate data systems. Her teaching focuses on research-led postgraduate education, emphasizing real-world applications of climate risk theory. Current projects explore amphibious architecture, flood insurance mechanisms, and long-term financial resilience strategies.
