Jessica L Shaw is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), specializing in Community and Applied Developmental Psychology. She holds affiliations with the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Gender Justice initiative (genderjustice-uic.org). Her research focuses on improving systemic responses to sexual assault through community partnerships, with a strong emphasis on social justice advocacy and policy change.
Education: Ph.D. in Ecological-Community Psychology (Michigan State University, 2014), M.A. (Michigan State, 2012), B.S. in Psychology (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, 2009).
Research interests include criminal justice and medical system responses to sexual assault, unsubmitted sexual assault kits, systems-based approaches to research, advanced evaluation methods, and policy change. Her work is funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, National Institute of Justice, and Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority.
Her publications and presentations highlight trends in evaluating cross-system responses to sexual assault, racial disparities in policing outcomes, and bystander education effectiveness. Recent work includes evaluations of police-based victim assistance programs and cooperative responses to adolescent sexual assault victims.

Current projects include reviewing applications for 2024 doctoral students focused on gender justice and systemic response improvements.
