Laura King is an Associate Professor in the Criminal Justice Department at Boise State University's School of Public Service. She has served as the Criminal Justice Program Lead (2019-2022), Criminal Justice Undergraduate Coordinator (2016-2018, 2019-present), and School of Public Service Research Director (2018-2019). Dr. King teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in research methods, statistical analysis, and victimology.

Dr. King's research focuses on sexual violence, victimology, and gender and crime. Her work examines police response to domestic and sexual violence, victim credibility, and investigative decision-making. She has conducted numerous studies on victim services in Idaho, including assessments of crime victim service providers, sexual assault kit initiatives, and victimization among persons with disabilities. Her research often employs mixed methods approaches to understand complex victimization issues and criminal justice responses.
Dr. King's recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate a strong focus on sexual assault case processing, victim participation, and officer responses to sexual violence. Her work examines how victim credibility influences investigative decisions, the effects of officer displays of doubt on case processing, and charge reduction patterns in sexual assault cases. She has also conducted extensive evaluation work for the Nampa Family Justice Center and various Idaho state agencies.

Dr. King serves as an expert witness for prosecutors in Ada County, Canyon County, and Oneida County on sexual assault and domestic violence cases. She is actively involved with the Idaho Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (ISAKI) Group and has served on various professional committees including the Western Society of Criminology Executive Board (Counselor-at-Large, 2021-present) and the American Society of Criminology Division of Victimology Awards Committee (2021-present).
