Jessica Kuhlmann is a Researcher in Political Science at the University of Siegen, affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Department of Political Science. She serves as a research assistant to Prof. Kathrin Ackermann, focusing on political integration of migrants and empirical democracy research.
Her research explores political knowledge, trust, and participation among individuals with migration backgrounds in Germany and the USA. Notably, she conducted fieldwork in Washington, DC as part of her NRW Research Fellowship, examining local-level integration policies and noncitizen voting rights. She employs both quantitative and qualitative methods, including interviews with politicians and survey innovations.
Teaching includes BA seminars on ‘The (supposed) crisis of German democracy’ and ‘Migration and Integration.’ She has presented at conferences such as the DVPW Sektionstagung and the International Journal of Migration and Integration, and contributes to blogs like Politik aus der Wissenschaft.
Awards include the NRW Fellowship (2024), funded by the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia. She holds memberships in the German Association for Political Science and the European Political Science Association.
