Jessica Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Pittsburgh, within the Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences. Her research focuses on political sociology, global and transnational dynamics, democracy, public opinion, women’s rights, and norm diffusion. She holds a PhD from Stony Brook University (2022), an MA (2019), and a BA (2015) from SUNY Geneseo.

Research Interests: Combines global/transnational perspectives with quantitative methods to study democracy promotion, gender quotas, climate skepticism, and norm diffusion. Her work has been funded by the NSF and published in journals like Sociology of Development and Politics and Gender.

Teaching & Service: Teaches graduate/undergraduate courses in global sociology and sociological theory. Serves as Council Member-at-Large for the ASA Feminist Development Subsection and has held editorial roles in academic sections. Active in pedagogical training, including antiracist teaching workshops.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates with the WZB Berlin Social Science Center and the SCRIPTS Cluster of Excellence. Leads projects on democracy INGO networks and climate skepticism through global liberal forces.
