Jessica Kim is a political sociologist and Visiting Researcher at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center’s Global Sociology unit. She previously served as a postdoctoral researcher in the same unit and held a former staff role in the Research Professorship Global Sociology. Her research focuses on global norm diffusion, particularly regarding women’s rights and democracy, examining how these liberal norms influence national policies and practices across hybrid regimes globally.
Education:
- PhD in Sociology, Stony Brook University
- MA in Sociology
- BAs in Sociology and Political Science
In Fall 2024, she will join the University of Pittsburgh as an Assistant Professor of Sociology.
Research Interests: Dr. Kim investigates the barriers and facilitators of norm diffusion, analyzing the compliance/non-compliance dynamics of nations with liberal global scripts. Her current project explores the complex interplay between democracy INGOs (DINGOs) and hybrid regimes, offering cross-national and longitudinal insights.
Labs/Teams: Active within the Global Sociology unit at WZB, contributing to interdisciplinary research on sociological global scripts and institutional dynamics.
