Jessica Horton is a Lecturer at Leeds Law School, part of Leeds Beckett University. She holds an LLB from De Montfort University (2017) and a PhD in Law from Northumbria University (2022). Prior to her academic role, she worked as a Judicial Assistant in Civil and Family Courts and served as a Companion Animal Welfare Policy Advisor at the UK Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
Her research focuses on Animal Law, particularly the legal and moral status of service dogs in England and Wales. She employs empirical methods to inform policy and legislative development. Her teaching covers Animal Law, Criminal Law, Law of Contract, Equity and Trusts, and Mental Health Law and Policy.
Jessica supervises PhD students in Animal Law and Policy. She is affiliated with the Humanities (A) Building at Broadcasting Place, City Campus, and is available for academic inquiries via email.
