Kaushik Paul is a Lecturer at Leeds Law School since August 2021, previously serving as a Tutor in Law at the University of Durham. He holds an LLB from the University of Wales, an LLM in Human Rights Law from the University of Nottingham, an LLM in Legal Practice from Liverpool John Moores University, and completed the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) at City, University of London. He was called to the Bar by Middle Temple in 2013 and earned his PhD from Durham University in 2021, funded by Durham Law School Studentship.
His research focuses on international human rights law, religious liberties, and women's rights, particularly examining divergent approaches of the United Nations and European Court of Human Rights regarding legal restrictions on religious attire. Utilizing John Stuart Mill's harm principle, his work explores regulatory legitimacy in liberal democracies. He has presented research at numerous conferences and published peer-reviewed articles.
As an Associate Fellow of Advance HE, Kaushik supervises PhD students in Law and Religion, and International Human Rights Law. His office is located at Broadcasting Place - Humanities (A) Building, City Campus, Leeds.
