Jessica Burke (J.B.) is an Associate Professor of Art and Foundations Coordinator at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte), part of the Art & Art History school. She holds a Master of Fine Arts from UNC Greensboro. Her academic roles include serving on national boards for Foundations in Art: Theory and Practice (FATE) and Integrative Teaching International (ITI), and she directed the 2021 FATE Biennial Conference.
Her artistic practice bridges traditional and digital drawing media, focusing on identity, popular culture, and mass media. She has received a North Carolina Arts & Science Council Grant for her digital media work, and her art has been featured in solo and juried exhibitions globally. Her work appears in publications like International Drawing Annual 13, Studio Visit Magazine, and Art for Everyone, and is held in collections such as the National Living Treasure Museum in Japan.
Burke has participated in artist residencies across Oregon, Georgia, New Mexico, France, Ireland, and Hungary. Her pedagogical focus on first-year art foundations and collaborative teaching methodologies underscores her commitment to innovative educational practices.
