Her research investigates how policy narratives shape environmental decision-making, with current projects analyzing advocacy group communication strategies on social media platforms. She examines the persuasive use of visual elements like photographs in policy storytelling, particularly regarding energy infrastructure controversies such as the Dakota Access Pipeline. This work bridges digital communication theory with environmental governance frameworks.
Scholarly publications spanning 2006-2018 reveal consistent focus on framing dynamics across nuclear energy, climate policy, and forestry regulation. Key patterns include the strategic use of historical analogies (Three Mile Island/Fukushima), contestation of policy narratives by interest groups, and climate change's crowding-out effects on other environmental issues. Her methodology combines qualitative discourse analysis with experimental survey designs.
Dr. Boscarino actively contributes to campus sustainability as Co-Chair of Marist's Campus Sustainability Advisory Committee. She teaches foundational courses including American Government, Public Policy, and Environmental/Energy Policy, alongside specialized offerings like Environmentalism in Popular Culture and Research Methods. Her classroom practice integrates real-world policy case studies with digital media analysis techniques.
