Dr. Jessica Bates is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Archaeology at the University of York, specializing in Mesolithic settlement archaeology and lithic analysis. Her work combines microwear analysis, GIS, and experimental archaeology to investigate hunter-gatherer behavior, particularly through studies of the Star Carr site in Britain.
Research Focus: Bates focuses on spatial organization of early post-built structures, tool use patterns, and biological identity in prehistoric contexts. Her recent publications address architectural analysis of Mesolithic sites and innovative methods in sex estimation for archaeological populations.
