Dr. Jesse Bloom is a Professor in the Basic Sciences Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and a Professor in the Herbold Computational Biology Program at the University of Washington's Public Health Sciences Division. He is also an Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. His research focuses on viral evolution, particularly influenza and SARS-CoV-2, using experimental and computational methods to study mutation impacts on viral function, immune escape, and global spread. Bloom's work bridges molecular biology, epidemiology, and computational science, with a focus on understanding how viruses evolve to evade immunity and adapt to new hosts.
